History: | Named for General Henry Brewerton (1801-1879), a native of New York City whose military and civilian service to his country spanned most of his life. General Brewerton served as chief engineer in Baltimore and oversaw the construction of the Baltimore Harbor. He also was tasked with directing the completion of Fort Carroll after the departure of Robert E Lee. Later, during the Civil War, he built and maintained the fortification of Baltimore. (US-T121) |
